Mitt Romney Not Likely To Run In 2012

Charley Manning, a longtime friend and advisor of Mitt Romney, had some very interesting things to say about the political future of the former Massachusetts governor today. Manning served as a consultant on Romney’s 1994 campaign for senate, his 2002 campaign for governor as well as the presidential campaign and remains close to him. For the last several weeks, I’ve been appearing with Manning on the Hank Morse Show on 96.9 FM-talk, WTKK.

Today’s show began with a discussion of The Boston Herald’s story implicating pro-Romney forces in the distribution of leaks unfavorable to Sarah Palin. After saying he would never hire the type of people who would leak negative information about a campaign they had just worked on, Manning gave his opinion on what Romney might do.

“I’d be surprised if Mitt ever ran again for president…I sure don’t think it was the best experience of his life,” Manning said. Manning cited the disappointment Romney experienced in hearing the level of anti-Mormon bias in the Republican primaries. “There are other things he can do,” Manning asserted.

If Palin runs for President in 2012, at least she has name recognition going for her… but that may not work in her favor

The vast majority of Republicans have nothing against Mormons but do have something against arrogant elitist flip-floppers and pathological liars like Mitt Romney. Hats off to the LDS community for supporting traditional marriage and family values. But if you want Republicans to support a Mormon candidate for high office, find one who actually consistently supports the values the LDS church claims to uphold. And it would also be nice if they could find a candidate who doesn’t squander his children’s inheritance on false attack ads and lies against other candidates while cravenly benefiting from the propoganda of “independent” media groups with which he has common financial interests.

“Squandering his kid’s inheritance”? That’s a hoot Paul!

and “benefiting from the propoganda (sic) of [independent] media groups”.

    Whoa!!!

  5. William F. Butler Says:

Oh great one Paul. Romney neither made false attacks against other candidates nor did he benefit from the media. In fact, most of the media overplayed the religion aspect of the race and used negative stereotypes in their descriptions of Romney’s church. There is a really good book that just came out that talks about Romney’s campaign — “A Different God? Mitt Romney, the Religious Right and the Mormon Question.” It’s worth reading to see what Romney and his campaign went through.
